Temporary Plant Health Technician

Title:               Temporary Plant Health Technician

Reports To:   Master Grower (Director of Cultivation)


 Job Scope:

The Temporary Plant Health Technician at Sugarbud will be responsible to execute against tasks directed by the Plant Health Lead and/or Master Grower.  This role will work closely with the Sugarbud grow and/or harvest teams for the Stavely site and assist in maintaining high quality growth, harvest and trim strategies.


Duties & Responsibilities:

This is a critical role in Sugarbud’s continued success and growth.  The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Knowledge of cannabis plants, grow methodologies and plant growth stages
  • Assist with plant maintenance activities such as, but not limited to cloning, transplanting, transferring, feeding, defoliation, high- and low-level stress training, trimming, waste disposal
  • Assist with harvesting and take down
  • Hand and/or machine manicure dried cannabis flowers to satisfy department standards of appearance and overall quality
  • Weigh, combine and manage bulk inventory containers, ensuring accurate weights
  • Label and seal packaged products
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation
  • Assist in fulfillment and shipping during peak periods
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Document all work as per SOP’s and Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
  • Assist in monitoring and modifying production inventory requirements
  • Adhere to Sugarbud sanitization program
  • Willing to take on duties as required and multitask shifting priorities
  • Re-stock tools and materials as needed
  • Ensure growth specifications are acceptable by meeting or exceeding the Company’s goals and objectives
  • Complete all training and safety requirements
  • Able to effectively communicate and work as a collaborative team player


Qualifications & Skills:


  • High School Diploma
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Applicant will be required to successfully complete police background check
  • Experience working in a cannabis facility or production line as a cultivation technician considered an asset
  • Exhibits a high level of attention to detail, accuracy and vigilance
  • Basic data entry (Microsoft Office, Email, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of Company goals, objectives, policies and matters related to the business


Working Conditions:


  • Must be willing to commute to Stavely, Alberta
  • Ability to remain calm and systematic in stressful situations
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Working in an environment where Cannabis is present
  • Available via telephone when needed
  • Must carry and use personal swipe card and personal code to access secured areas
  • Candidates must be reliable, trustworthy and adaptable to variable work shifts
  • Must have reliable transportation as public transportation is not available
  • Follow health and safety policies set up by the company
  • Ability to work in hot and humid environments


Physical Requirements:


  • Walking, standing, sitting behind a computer, able to lift loads up to 23Kg (50 lbs), perform tasks that require repeated body movements, able to bend, kneel etc.
  • Perform manual repetitive tasks
  • Ability to work on heights (training will be provided)
